We’re a week past National Park Week. But is a week really enough.

Here are 10 more facts which let you delve a little deeper into the lore of our national parks. (Last week had a strong history bent, so this time I tried to feature a few more natural facts.)

I recently had the opportunity to share my thoughts on “Digging up a Story,” at several local libraries!

And while I will reflect upon those presentations later. I wanted to share the main theme! Basically, that everyone has a story, and anyone can tell one. And one of the best ways to figure out a story is to learn more about the thing you are interested in.

As our Nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, I figured it would be fitting to celebrate a couple other anniversaries:

Those of the National Parks which represent some of the most awesome places we have preserved. Parks are supposed to be protected, and they are supposed to be promoted, so lets talk about some of the best things to do In Mammoth Cave National Park.

On June 28th 1980, Biscayne National Monument got bigger and became Biscayne National Park.

What Better what to celebrate that, and enjoy the summer, than enjoying the park? Here are 6 of my suggestions for things to do in Biscayne National Park.

All Activities are J.R.I.C. approved, and some take you along the same trails they take in the Treasure of Biscayne Bay!

Recently, I got to speak to some really cool groups about making some really cool stories.

In the recent S.O. 3431, 60 different media sources from Mammoth Cave were flagged for review. (Potentially for removal, editing, or censorship.)

Included in that list are a number of signs, brochures, and talks related to Mammoth Cave National Park’s history with different cave guides and their families who lived and worked in Mammoth Cave.

Perhaps, most notably on this list, are several signs related to the Bransford Family, who have a long legacy in Mammoth Cave. So, lets talk about some of the most interesting stories about Mammoth Cave’s history, why the government might have flagged them, and what we can do to prevent them from being removed or changed. (and why we should.)

In March of this year, a database of National Park signs, brochures, audio scripts and other media was released in a file titled: Flagged for Removal.

These appear to be the files submitted after Secretarial Order 3431 last year, and suggest that some very significant media might be set for removal or censorship. Articles have been published over some of the media in this database, (links to some provided.)

But I thought I’d go in a different direction. I wanted to show a bit of what is in the database, and have a bit more discussion about what it means. (and why the evidence shows that it is, at best, a very flawed process.)

On April 20th of 2026, I was finally able to explore a section of Mammoth Cave which I’ve been wanting to see for a while. There’s very limited, and limited time tour of Crystal Cave, discovered and developed by Floyd Collins, one of Mammoth Cave’s most famous explorers.

While Floyd is more famous for the singular most tragic aspect of his life, he’d probably have rather been known for his numerous, awesome, discoveries, like this cave. So read more about it, or simply check out the pictures, it was a great tour!

Spring is here! Time to feature several of my absolute favorite National Parks!

So, pack up the family, hit the road, and make certain you have your inter-planar radar set to adventure.

I recently attended the Kentucky Book Festival in Lexington Kentucky. There were tons of cool authors, awesome books, and even a pretty rad panel on Writing for Young Readers.

I decided to write a little bit about it. If you don’t want to read, the general summary is: Book Festivals are super fun!

But do read, if for no other reason than to check out links to an assortment of other cool authors and their really awesome books!

This last weekend, I brought the Junior Rangers Investigative Club to the Louisville Book Festival.

It was awesome!
